Head of DevOps

DevOps at Flipside Crypto isn't just a department, it's a philosophy that empowers the data pipelines, APIs, and data science workloads that drive Product and Data. The engineering team at Flipside Crypto is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to be a part of that philosophy, to build out and scale up our cloud infrastructure, and to evangelize a culture that guides all engineers in actively engaging in, knowing of, and caring for the systems that back the Product and Data they build. We don't toss things over the wall here. We're all one engineering team, and the DevOps department drives the automation and tooling to facilitate that.

Blockchain technology is often uncharted territory, and solving the challenges of navigating it requires a creative, flexible cloud architecture that can drive the data pipelining, distributed databases, at-scale web applications, large-scale front-end applications, and data visualizations necessary to dominate the industry and define it. We are constantly breaking new ground and are looking for someone who can not only keep track of all the foundations being dug, but also feel excited about the new challenges those create, and foster that excitement through the entire team.

Responsibilities

• Work with our development teams to ensure they have the tools required to maintain and support their applications
• Work with our development teams to maintain the tooling and scripting for Github Actions, our automated continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) system
• Develop automation and orchestration capabilities that allow us to operate at scale using Terraform
• Monitor and maintain our Kubernetes infrastructure
• Maintain a broad knowledge of all in-use languages and services and serve as a mentorship resource for other team members
• Work on and ensure the roadmap for the team is implemented and followed
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call team rotation as a second escalation point
• Will be expected to serve as primary support for troubleshooting tickets where deadlines matter
• Engineers should expect to put some of their time towards advancing their own knowledge and should use downtime accordingly
• Flipside has a fun, collaborative culture and we want our team to be a part of it so that every developer who reaches out to us for support does so with comfort and confidence
• Will be expected to maintain and curate technical documentation for the DevOps department as well as the tooling that supports it
• Will be occasionally asked to pitch in with programming if needed to get a project launched for Product or Data

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with programming languages
• 5+ years experience with the AWS ecosystem or similar like GCP
• 5+ years of experience with containers
• Experience mentoring and leading engineers
• 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes
• 5+ years of experience with Linux environments
• 3+ years of experience with Terraform
• Must be okay with on-call including if needed nights and weekends

Preferable:

• Familiarity with Python, Golang, or both
• Familiarity with Ansible
• Familiarity with SQL dialects, specifically PostgreSQL
• Networking experience particularly in cloud environments
• Familiarity with testing Terraform
• Familiarity with Packer and other Hashicorp tools
• Excitement about blockchain
