Bowers & Wilkins is seeking to recruit a Senior Cloud Engineer to join the team responsible for cloud development and architecture for smart speakers and other products. The Senior Cloud Engineer will jointly ensure that the end-to-end experience is cohesive, delighting and befitting of our performance-oriented, world-class audio products. Bowers & Wilkins are looking for an experienced engineer, well versed in AWS cloud software development, ideally using Clojure or a similar functional language with a focus on writing tested and maintainable code who will report to the Director of B&W Software, Apps & Services. Experience in microservices, REST APIs, data and analytics is highly desirable.

Bowers & Wilkins is expanding a new small, focussed software team capable of supporting the broad range of physical products in the current portfolio and those in the roadmap. The new team brings internal ownership of software assets whilst keeping the ability to flex with external resources as needed.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Take joint ownership of existing cloud services.
  • Implement new features using modern standards of software engineering and successfully release services using best practices in security and privacy.
  • Track down issues and provide support for colleagues and external parties.
  • Jointly own cloud build, deployment and support processes.
  • Champion cloud engineering whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary and global product development team including: Product Management, Acoustic and Mechanical Engineering, and Sales and Marketing.
  • Mentor other members of the organisation relating to cloud activities.


Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification in computer science, software engineering, science, or equivalent work experience


Key technical skills:

  • Experience in developing, building, testing and releasing cloud software, ideally written in Clojure or any other functional language
  • Highly experienced in delivering quality, testable code that is clear, concise, well-documented and adheres to commercial standards
  • Experience in AWS services, data storage, SQL, scalability and security
  • Experience of Agile Software Development practices (TDD, CI)
  • Experience with Jenkins build and Continuous Development release processes
  • Optional experience of analytics capture, organising data and generating business insights
  • Understanding of microservice, Linux and container architectures
  • Demonstrable understanding of testing throughout the product lifecycle, both at code-level (unit testing) and application-level (manual/system/automation testing)
  • Knowledge of or interest in the audio market

Location: Remote working possible, this role is affiliated to Bowers & Wilkins Research & Engineering Facility in Southwater, West Sussex, UK. Occasional travel expected to Bowers & Wilkins sites in the UK and globally.
