Lead Full Stack Developer (Fully Remote)

Phosphor Co

Remote worldwide

Posted over 2 years ago

Lead developer for product layer of our finance platform; highly competitive equity comp

Tech stack

  • F#

âš¡What you'll do

  • Architect, develop, and deploy Phosphor's core modeling product
  • Collaborate closely on extension of said core product into rest of product line such as creation of community platform (think GitHub of Finance)
  • Manage individual priorities, deadlines, and deliverables; potentially those of others where relevant
  • Work closely with Phosphor's founder, contributing strategically and playing a key role in the product development process

🎯Values we're screening for

  • Customer-centric: You work actively to understand the user and work backwards from their problems to create solutions that make them better. We constantly work to earn and maintain their trust - often, they'll be using our product to drive many millions of dollars.
  • Bias for action: Speed matters. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We heavily value calculated risk-taking, but we're available for questions.
  • Corner-cutting sense: You can allocate time based on impact. You bias towards shipping even if imperfect.
  • Ownership: We're looking for owners. You think long term and don't sacrifice long-term value for short-term results. You act on behalf of the entire company beyond just our own team and never say "that's not my job."
  • Earn trust: You listen attentively, speak candidly and act respectfully. You're constantly benchmarking yourself against the best.
  • Communication: We're building a remote-first, asynchronous team. As much of our processes are communicated through writing, we expect strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Architect: You enjoy building products for the end goal and what's being shipped and hence are comfortable and experienced moving across the stack. You love problem solving and enjoy figuring out solutions to hard problems. Our projects are large with open-ended scope.
  • Backbone: You respectfully speak up when you disagree about something, and work hard to develop conviction that enables you to deliver results.

Ideal technical experience:

  • 5+ years as a software engineer building enterprise-grade software products
  • Full stack experience required, with emphasis on front end work
  • Strong degree of comfort with functional languages such as F# and React; F# experience not required
  • Comfortable working with and designing abstractions and frameworks which increase developer velocity

🙌What we offer

  • Highly competitive compensation with emphasis on equity
  • Comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage
  • WFH stipend - pick up a desk/chair/monitor/whatever-you-need
  • Flexible hours as we're building an async-focused remote company - we expect strong performance, but your schedule is (mostly) yours to deliver it
  • Opportunity to take on significant responsibility and ownership in building a product that has potential to impact millions of people

🌎Where you'll work

This is a remote-first position. We plan to organize retreats from time-to-time, but you can work from any location you prefer.

😎Why you should join Phosphor

  1. Massive Opportunity - The finance world is at a turning point: large financial institutions are seeing employee churn so high that it no longer makes sense to keep throwing new bodies at problems. We've spoken to heads of investment banks directly about these concerns, and we're presenting a clear solution.
  2. Outsized Impact - By replacing Excel's unstructured spreadsheet language with a highly structured (but very simple) modeling language, we have the opportunity to quite literally create the Github of finance. The financial services industry safeguards and sells information at high cost to entrepreneurs, developers, even developing countries. We're aiming to flip the script by freeing the information by selling the platform.
  3. Challenging Problems - We're building developer tools for finance folks, and we're doing so in a way that takes the equivalent of a college-level programmer, and empowers him/her to do the work of a developer with a decade of experience.
  4. Traction - The first money into Phosphor has comprised of industry professionals who intend to a) champion the product within their very large investment firms, or b) market the product to their very large communities of investment professionals. We've created long term alignment and sales stickiness through equity.
