ABOUT THE ROLE:

Do you want to actively enable our engineers to bring value to millions of users every day and become part of shaping this new role at Ecosia?

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who makes the people around them better engineers and ensures that our best practices and technology keep growing with us. If this is you, come join us in our Berlin office.

Together with the Engineering Management team, you support the development of our software engineers across multiple teams. You contribute to the growth of the engineering organization as a hiring manager and by strengthening our collaborative and inclusive culture. This can either be a temporary contract offer for 18 months (interim) or a permanent position.

YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE:

• You enjoy developing and growing people and have previous experience with directing, supervising, coaching, and mentoring software engineers of different specializations.
• You have some experience working in a functional or people lead role (e.g. tech lead, team lead, engineering manager) in software development and know-how to apply modern agile engineering practices to ensure continuous delivery (experience with our core technologies welcome, but not a requirement at all).
• You have hired for engineering positions, embracing diversity and understanding the importance of creating an inclusive workplace.
• You bias towards action and pragmatism, both in your own work, as well as in your enablement of others, and bring a forward-thinking mindset to continuously empower the team to improve.
• You believe in servant leadership and bottom-up culture.

OUR TECHNOLOGY STACK:

• Backend: Go and Python services communicating internally through gRPC and publicly through REST
• Frontend: Nuxt-based Vue applications, making heavy use of SSR
• Mobile: Firefox fork on iOS, Chromium fork on Android
• BI: Snowplow for first-party tracking, Airflow for ETL, Redshift-based Looker for dashboards
• Infrastructure: Kubernetes on AWS through EKS; resources managed through Terraform
• Tooling: Prometheus/Grafana for monitoring, GitHub/CircleCI for hosting and CI/CD, Docker for containerization

THE HIRING PROCESS:

• First call with Sabine (Recruiter) (30-45min)
• Interview with two of our Engineering Managers (60min)
• Technical Conversation with two of our Engineers (45min)
• Team Exercise (45min - 15min break - 30min)
• Final, non-technical interview with CEO and PM (30min)

According to your preference, some of the stages can be combined to reduce time.

All steps are done remotely.
